Standing With Ukraine’s Frontline Defenders
For Ukrainian veterans recovering from severe injuries, returning home is often only the beginning of a much longer journey.
Many are learning how to live with life-changing wounds while also facing the emotional and financial consequences that follow. Losing mobility can affect a person's ability to leave home, attend appointments, visit family, work, and take part in everyday life. At the same time, food insecurity, unreliable electricity, and the psychological effects of war can make recovery even more difficult.
Through this project, Hope For Ukraine continues to provide practical support to wounded veterans and frontline defenders as they rebuild their lives.
One of the veterans we recently supported is Marko*, who was severely wounded while defending Ukraine during the Russian invasion. After losing his leg, Marko faced a difficult recovery that included phantom limb syndrome, depression, PTSD, and the challenge of adjusting to a completely different daily life.
Our team has been working to address several of the challenges he faces rather than focusing on only one need.
Marko received food kits so that access to nutritious food would not become another source of stress while he focused on his recovery. He also received a mobility scooter, giving him greater freedom to move independently and participate in everyday life without relying entirely on others for transportation.
Our next step is to provide him with a Solar Energy Resilience Kit. Reliable backup power will help him keep his mobility scooter and other essential devices charged during electricity outages.
Marko's experience reflects why comprehensive support for wounded veterans remains so important. A mobility scooter cannot reverse an injury, but it can restore a degree of independence that may have been lost. Food assistance can provide stability during recovery, while access to reliable power can help ensure that essential equipment remains usable when the electricity goes out.
Other wounded veterans have also received mobility scooters through Hope For Ukraine. For recipients, these scooters are much more than transportation. They can make it possible to leave home independently, travel to appointments, spend time with family, and regain some control over everyday routines.
For someone adjusting to the loss of a limb or another serious injury, these ordinary activities can become meaningful milestones in the recovery process.
This work is made possible by the people who continue to support Ukraine's frontline defenders long after the immediate emergency has passed. Recovery does not end when a veteran leaves the battlefield or the hospital. For many, it requires months or years of physical rehabilitation, emotional healing, and practical assistance.
Your support allows Hope For Ukraine to continue standing beside veterans during that process and helping provide the tools, food, mobility, and stability they need as they move forward.
Thank you for helping Ukraine's wounded defenders rebuild their independence and dignity.
