Support to solve the effect of flooding at Ngamba

Summary

Our beloved sanctuary is facing an unprecedented crisis due to severe flooding caused by a dramatic increase in water levels on Lake Victoria. Since the beginning of the year, we have experienced el-nino rains and this has caused flooding on the Island since then, we had hoped the rains would ease with what is supposed to be a dry season now, but it is still raining.

Challenge

The flooding has compromised the electric fence, which is crucial for the safety of our 53 rescued chimpanzees, some parts of the electric fence have been compromised. Fortunately, the newer fence line is standing, but the older line which creates a buffer-zone, is on the brink of collapsing.

Solution

The project will help the Trust raise funds to re-enforce the electric fence and the docking pier as well as strengthen its facilities.

Long-Term Impact

A fully functional electric fence which acts as a buffer between the main fence and the side for humans to allow a corridor as a buffer when a chimp is forced to escape due to fights or any other reason.
