By Anthony S. Kolaco | Team Leader

                       GlobalGiving Project Report

Reporting Period: February – May 2026
Location: Margibi County, Liberia
Project Focus: Support Rural Girls Education in Liberia -Project #(33068)

During the reporting period, Learning Squared Liberia continued implementing its education support project in Margibi County, focusing on improving school attendance, academic performance, and overall well-being of vulnerable students. Through targeted assessments and planned academic interventions, the project addressed both financial and educational barriers affecting beneficiaries. Key achievements include the successful assessment of student performance, which showed improvements in attendance, motivation, and classroom participation. These gains were largely driven by reduced financial pressures on families through the organization’s microfinance-linked support model. Building on these results, Learning Squared is launching an Academic Support and Mentorship Program to further strengthen learning outcomes, provide personalized guidance, and empower students to achieve long-term academic success. During this period, activities focused on:

  • Assessing beneficiaries’ academic performance and progress
  • Identifying key barriers to learning
  • Designing targeted academic support interventions

The project was implemented in partnership with local schools in Margibi County, including:

  • ROSODAN School System
  • Pray for Life Training Academy

Activities Implemented

 Assessment of Beneficiaries’ Academic Performance

A structured assessment was conducted to evaluate:

  • School attendance
  • Academic performance
  • Classroom participation
  • Student behavior

This process involved collaboration with teachers and school administrators to ensure accurate and comprehensive feedback on each beneficiary’s progress.

Development of Academic Support and Mentorship Program

Based on assessment findings, Learning Squared designed an Academic Support and Mentorship Program to address identified gaps. The program will include:

  • After-school tutoring sessions
  • Study skills and academic coaching
  • Career guidance and exposure
  • One-on-one mentorship support

Beneficiaries will be paired with mentors who will guide their academic journey, monitor progress, and support personal development.

Outcomes and Impact

The assessment revealed several positive outcomes:

  • Improved School Attendance:
Many students demonstrated more consistent attendance due to reduced financial constraints.
  • Increased Motivation and Engagement:
Beneficiaries showed greater interest in their studies and participated more actively in class.
  • Enhanced Confidence:
Teachers reported improved self-confidence and classroom interaction among students.
  • Strengthened Household Support:
Financial relief provided to families contributed to a more stable learning environment for students.

These results highlight the strong link between economic support and educational outcomes

Conclusion

The reporting period demonstrates that Learning Squared’s integrated approach, combining financial support with educational interventions, is yielding meaningful results. Improvements in attendance, motivation, and academic engagement highlight the effectiveness of the program.

With the introduction of the Academic Support and Mentorship Program, Learning Squared is taking a critical step toward ensuring long-term educational success for beneficiaries. Continued support from partners and donors will be essential to sustain and expand this
