Partnere per Femijet is supporting some of the most poor and desolate families affected by the earthquake that hit Albania that has left them sleeping in plastic and flimsy tents or in temporary shelters and without the basics for life. The project will support the families with food, clothes, bedding, nappies, medication, support to find accommodation and psychosocial support and activities for the children.
A 6.4 earthquake hit Albania devastating the lives of many families in and around Tirana. Around 150 poor families are homeless and without the basic resources to live. Babies, children and elderly persons are now living in flimsy shelters, plastic tents and in temporary shelters with night time temperatures at freezing. They risk infections, disease, hypothermia and a lack of nutrition affecting in the long term their health. The children are frightened to sleep and have nightmares.
We will provide, hot meals and food, clothing, medication, hygiene products, milk formula, bedding, clothes and psychosocial support to help the families rebuild their lives and to reduce the trauma of the last week. To reduce the terrors of the earthquake, the children will have activities and support in talking about their fears. Games, drawing and play will be used with the children on what causes an earthquake and how to stay safe. Adults will be supported to gain housing.
150 families so far have been identified in needing this urgent assistance to rebuild their lives and a home for themselves and their children. Children need stability with which to survive and develop so the psychsocial support is important in enabling them to move on from the terrors and to return to school and to play.
