The project was considered due to most affected area by poverty stricken where in many orphaned outreached children no access to education and suffering male nutrition since long. Considering the underlying factors this project will establish 10 non-formal schools cum library for disadvantaged children to provide free education in remote areas at Kurigram Sub-District in Bangladesh providing nutritious food & biscuit to 200 malnourished orphan children. The project aims to build a school cum library well equipped with necessary books and critical literacy support to 200 poor outreach orphaned children. The project plans to fulfilling the nutritional requirements of school-going children and establishing children's right to education. We supported orphans by providing them with good food, quality education, psycho-social support, health services, cultural program and extra-curricular interventions for orphans. We reach out to children through a family-centered approach.

 Project Objective:
The broader objective of the project is to help and support 200 outreach orphaned children in rural Kurigram, Bangladesh to facilitate education, nutritional requirements and establish children rights.
Targeted Beneficiaries:
Targeted beneficiaries determined by the geographical area in which a project is located who benefit from a project. The target beneficiaries within the project localities will be primarily comprised of boys’ and girls’ children’s households, who are the orphaned and most affected by poverty stricken has given the highest priority of the project. The children age to be considered ranging from 06-11 years.

Challenges:

Kurigram District of Bangladesh is one of the poorest and densely populated places in the country with a population of 2 million. 30+% of this population are children aged between 0-15 years with a significant number living below the poverty line. A huge proportion of these children are orphaned and they have to earn money to support themselves and their families. Orphans and street children are often thrown in jail for petty crimes, or they are abused and subjected to the most atrocious violence.

 Activities progressed during the period:

  • Ensured nutritious food and basic necessities (provide clothing’s, hygiene materials etc.) for 200 orphaned.
  • Educational deliverables were supported (Books, education supplies, Tutor support,) to 200 orphaned.
  • Library support: Provided necessary books and learning materials accessible for local school children to 150.
  • Health-care services and counseling are provided to 200 children and their families.
  • Co-curricular activities in the form of music, art, dance & sports were supported
  • Competitions for intellectual development (art, math, science, spelling bee, essay, debate etc.) followed regularly as per routine.
  • Observed & celebrating important international days (World Child Rights Day, International Literacy Day, Girl child day, World Sight Day, World Children’s Day etc.)
  • Organized 01 learning Seminars & lectures focused to engage wider communities.
  • Giving Awards & Recognitions for best academic achievement for the 50 learners.

Ensured food and Healthcare Support:
School feeding for the orphanages were facilitated during schooling is going on. Primarily feeding is provided once in a week to all children. The project has planned to provide food in everyday based on available funding as required.
 Long-Term Impact

  • Decreased poverty: Primary education helped reduce poverty. 
  • Decreased child mortality: Primary education can help reduce child mortality rates. 
  • Increased environmental understanding: Primary education can help increase environmental understanding. 
  • Encouraged gender equality: Primary education can help encourage gender equality
  • Learning losses: School closures during the pandemic can lead to significant learning losses. 
  • Low quality education: A shortage of teachers, inadequate teaching materials, and underdeveloped infrastructure can lead to low quality education. 
  • Students enrolling in kindergarten schools: Students may enroll in kindergarten schools due to a lack of quality education in primary schools. 
  • Factors that can impact primary education include: 
  • Teacher quality: The quality of teachers, including their sincerity and status, can impact the quality of education. 
  • Teaching materials: Inadequate teaching materials can impact the quality of education. 
  • Infrastructure: Underdeveloped infrastructure can impact the quality of education. 
  • Family poverty: Poverty in families can impact the quality of education. 
  • Guardian awareness: Lack of awareness among guardians can impact the quality of education. 
  • Family and community environment: The environment in which children develop and learn, including their family and community, can impact their learning and development. 

Conclusion and appeal:
Till the reporting period we received 5000 USD to support 200 orphaned for necessary deliverables. On the other hand, food, healthcare, school uniforms, education materials, tuition fees etc. to those children whose parents or caregivers were ensured by the project. To make a difference 100% of your donation goes to the children. We are also looking for new sponsor, donors or individuals who can help us with either fundraising or by sharing our initiative to friends or peoples who are supportive for the project. GlobalGiving is continued supporting us for its overall development.
This project would not have been possible to reap expected outcome as setouts in the project without the kind support and help of donors, friends and any individuals. To support the project fund raising is continued and we hope that all the people who have willingly would like to extend their support to the project is highly appreciated.
