2019 was a great year for girls in ICT!

By Aida Daguda | Project Leader

The Center for the Promotion of Civil Society (CPCD) organized education for 24 girls from different regions of Bosna and Herzegovina on April 25, on the occasion of the International Day of Women in Information and Communication Technologies, which is being celebrated on the fourth Thursday in the fourth month each year.

This year's slogan of the campaign is "Expand horizons, change attitudes", which was the starting point for the CPCD team to examine the views of girls about what they would like to be additionally educated on the occasion of marking the Day of Girls in ICT in 2019.

Therefore, the CPCD decided to organize a full-day education on video production for the prevention of violence, because it is celebrated every 25th in the world as a day of awareness of gender-based violence. The trainer is a longtime activist, video producer and successful young woman Berina Dzemailovic.

The goal is to encourage girls to start using information and communication technologies for the prevention of violence, and thus contribute to creating a healthier online environment for all young people. "The global campaign is under the slogan Expand horizons, changed attitudes send us a clear message that we have to work more harder, to strengthen our personal competencies in order to create a clearer vision of the development of our career and to be brave enough and able to change attitudes in relation to new knowledge. CPCD is strategically focused on improving the education of girls and young people in the field of information technologies, which is illustrated by the fact that through education on the occasion of the International Day of Girls in Information and Communication Technologies, more than 20,000 girls have been educated to date, "says Diana Cvjetkovic Manager of the SMART Resource Center in the CPCD.

Special guest at the workshop was a longtime manager in the IT company in Slovenia, Jovanka Starovic. Ms Starovic has built up her career thanks to hard work, which she believes is difficult and important knowing how to receive knowledge, and that it is even more difficult and more important to convey knowledge to the new generations of powerful women.

At the workshop, girls have learned a lot of knowledge, ideas and the motivation to independently create short and useful video materials from now on, and to share it on social networks.

This was indeed a great event, thank you again for your support!
