Dear Supporters,
This project covers need-based support to the schools and beneficiaries in the flood affected areas in central Kerala . IDEA Foundation has started this project in August 2018 soon after a flood- a natural calamity of severe nature claimed more than 400 lives and completely damaged many homes and schools especially in north and central Kerala . Unfortunately the people in these locations had to face another flood in August 2019 too . Then came the crisis we all are facing- the pandemic of COVID .
Excellence in studies
The flood and the Pandemic could not dampen the enthusiasm of our school children. They showed excellent performance in the school final exams .
In this academic year, schools in Kuttanad achieved nearly 100% success ( 99.94%) in the School final (SSLC ) Exams. Many students of SNDP HS, Kuttamangalam also secured ‘A plus’ in all subjects. They achieved this while facing adverse conditions like flood of 2019, and Covid pandemic at the end of academic year. The students achieved this sparkling victory with the dedicated support of teachers and NGOs mainly IDEA Foundation. IDEA had arranged English language classes and sessions of co-curricular activities at few schools in Kuttanad, like Govt HS Kuppappuram and SNDP HS Kuttamangalam. Also, IDEA had provided school bags, umbrellas, and other items needed for the students in the above schools during the starting of this academic year.
Support to schools
In 2019 and 2020 support from donors like you enabled us to provide two sewing machines and one embroidery sewing machine to Govt HS Kuppappuram for making cloth bags as an initiative to avoid plastic bags in the neighbourhood. The campaign to minimize the use of plastic carry bags by promoting cloth bags was started by the school PTA , but due to lack of fund, they initiated the campaign with two old sewing machine from students’ home and the campaign picked up momentum when the sewing machines sponsored by IDEA reached the school. The campaign made an eco-friendly impact at nearby places as most of the people preferred the cloth bags and the use of plastic carry bags was reduced. Mothers of a few children trained students the making of cloth bags and since the school is closed now due to Covid pandemic, the activity was put on hold now as the sewing machines provided was supposed to be kept at school only for common use.
We provided office furniture like office table, book shelf, and slotted angle rack to Govt High School Kuppappuram and SNDP High School Kuttamangalam.
We have also given financial aid to Ponga Govt Lower Primary school for the construction of temporary class rooms. The school was in a dilapidated condition and the School Management committee raised some money for renovation work . For making temporary classrooms by doing trusswork there was still a shortage of fund. The estimated cost for the trusswork is Rs 40,000/-.Nedumudi village panchayath ( local body) sanctioned an amount of Rs 9000/-as immediate relief. The Parents Teachers Association has arranged Rs 10,000/-. There was a shortage of Rs 21,000/- for doing the trusswork , IDEA provided funds to complete the work .
Our efforts to support the schools and beneficiaries are going on with the available funds . We request your support so that we can reach out to more needy children and schools.
