Dear friends of IDEA,
Season’s greetings and Merry Christmas!
Thank you for being a guardian angel for many people in need. May your Christmas sparkle with moments of joy, laughter, and goodwill.
We are here with another report from the field on the activities we held during last quarter, the challenges we came across and our future plan for the project. This year is ending with mixed feelings. We stand firmly in solidarity with the people who lost their near and dear ones in the second wave of Corona. We could reach out to some of them and extend our help in whichever way we could. Though fund raising is a major challenge for many NGOs like us, our heart fill with joy and gratitude when we see people coming forward to help the poor and needy .
Activities under the project
1. Financial support to flood affected families.
The low lying areas of Kuttanadu is affected by flood during heavy rains as well as when water bunds rupture . We provided financial assistance to many families at Kainakary Panchayat in Alappuzha district who were severely affected by the flood caused as a result of Cyclone Tauktae . The paddy fields and residential areas of Kainakary were flooded and several people were affected by the flood. Many such families were shifted to a local school and they were staying there for more than 3 months. We provided financial assistance to a few more most needy families of daily wage earners . The assistance was made in the form of cash transfer directly into the beneficiaries bank account so that they families can use the amount as per their individual family needs .
2. Drinking water facilities in a school
Drinking water is very scarce in Kuttanadu even though the area is surrounded by water on four sides. Due to the leakage and damage of public taps, polluted water is getting mixed in the tap water and the usage of that water for drinking and cooking without being purified causes serious health problems. SNDP HS, Kuttamangalam has requested us for providing a Reverse Osmosis type water purifier. We provided a Reverse Osmosis water purification unit of 80 lph capacity to SNDP HS, Kuttamangalam to solve the drinking water scarcity there.
3. Gas stove for mid-day meal program in a school
Lunch preparation ( as part of the mid-day meal program of the school ) for students was interrupted due to lack of a gas stove. The old gas stove was damaged due to flood It was totally rusted and useless. From the project fund, we provided a new gas stove for preparing lunch for students at GOVT UP School, Thottuvathala, as per their request.
4. Follow-up on the usage of e-learning app.
The distribution of E Learning App ( Byjus App ) helped our children from the supporting Schools and the schools have made a whatsApp group for monitoring the effective usage of the App and the assessment of students while using the app is shared among the group. Our students are happy with the ease of learning with this App and we will be including more students under this umbrella.
5. Distribution of Hygiene kit including Mask and Sanitizer.
Schools have started offline classes for children . Most of the students attend schools as many schools have stopped taking online classes. But many children come without proper masks . The project fund has helped in distributing Hygiene kits to the schools and masks to all students .
Challenges we face in the field
Some of the challenges we came across during last quarter are :-
1. Continuous flood
2. Repeated CORONA outbreak
3. Network issues in some schools
Our Planning for the next quarter
1. To provide covid financial support to the deserving families of students if required.
2. To provide hygiene items ( Sanitiser, Mask, Handwash, etc ) to other participating schools.
3. To provide Byjus app licences to more schools and to more deserving students.
4. To provide Study materials to the deserving students of all supported schools.
5. To increase the total beneficiary reach to 1300 students
Request for support:- Dear friends, our planning can ONLY be realised with your support. So please continue your support for upcoming programs emerging from this project and support us reach out to more deserving children .
