Demystifying abortion and all sexual activities

Unsafe abortion and other health issues kill more than 20,000 women every year in the Democratic Republic of Congo, which is about 57 women per month losing their lives for things we can prevent.

We have put in prevention activities which focuses on sharing information about sexual and reproductive health, HIV-AIDs, and menstrual hygiene among others. However we are in very conservative society where even talking about sex is a problem, showing a photo of a sex is a problem.

During our field visit for a community information session in order among areas where young girls are involved in survival sex in Mongafula, Kinshasa, this women shouted “You must consider what to say in public, these are things connected to sex which we do not disclose in a big audience like this”.

In Maluku during our information session with IDPs especially women who are living on survival sex this young girl indicated “thanks for coming, if I had this information before, I would not be carrying this baby today, I could have prevented the pregnancy”.

The high level of poverty, ignorance and religious and cultural beliefs are the leaders causes to our campaigns to protect women and help them access information about safe-abortion.
