In the heart of Pebuahan, a resilient community faced the dual challenge of boosting disaster preparedness amidst their bustling marine activities. Our goal was to enhance disaster management skills for 70% of the community, but we exceeded expectations by engaging 45 participants in two capacity-building workshops. Despite only 16 individuals completing the program due to conflicting schedules with fishing activities, the 53% capacity improvement achieved is commendable. The community's commitment to installing warning signs and completing mangrove plantings, despite busy schedules, showcases their dedication to the project's success.
We also successfully formed a comprehensive disaster management plan, creating vital documents encompassing risk maps, evacuation routes, and the Community-Based Disaster Management (KMPB) structures. Workshops on community-based disaster management plans reached 45 participants, ensuring the dissemination of crucial knowledge. The efficient completion of tasks such as heavy equipment rental and IEC material distribution contributed to achieving our set targets. However, some activities, like the installation of warning signs and mangrove plantings, are partially completed, with the community committed to finishing them by the second week of October 2023. Meanwhile, our psychosocial support activities also touched the lives of 212 community members, providing vital assistance during their recovery process.
Thanks to our donors' invaluable support, we have achieved significant milestones, empowering the Pebuahan community to face future challenges with enhanced resilience.
