Our vision is a world in which people do not die prematurely of heart disease. We will achieve this by researching the causes of heart disease and improving the methods of prevention, diagnosis and treatment. Research underpins everything we do at the BHF. Our Hands Only CPR campaign is giving people the skills to save lives; a day of life-changing support and guidance from a cardiac nurse on our dedicated Heart Helpline are just two small illustrations of the big impact your support provides.
Dedicated to the fight against heart disease Our task is to keep hearts beating and we focus our work on our groundbreaking research. We are the UK's number one heart charity and through 50 years of funding cutting edge research we have already made a big difference to people's lives. But the landscape of heart disease is changing. More people survive a heart attack or cardiac arrest than ever before, and that means more people are now living with heart disease and need our help.
We are the single biggest independent funder of cardiovascular research in the UK - from new discoveries about how the heart develops in the womb, to developing the treatments that could mend broken hearts in the future. We are funding hundreds of researchers on around 1,200 projects. All aim to find new, better treatments for people with heart and circulatory disease, or develop new ways to better prevent or diagnose it.
For babies born with heart defects to the millions of adults affected by heart disease, our scientists are carrying the fight for every heartbeat into the future. We have already made heart research history. And with the help of our researchers' tireless work, we will uncover the mysteries that could help us regenerate hearts, form new arteries and muscle, and ultimately stop heart disease in its tracks.
