English in Mind Institute (EIM) provides high quality, affordable English classes to adults in Port-au-Prince, along with job placement assistance.
It's been another challenging year in Haiti with continued insecurity and gang violence impacting much of Port-au-Prince, including our neighborhood of Clercine. Additionally, our community suffered some personal losses including the untimely passing of our beloved teacher Lepty. But as always, we've continued to come together as a community and are as committed as ever to keeping EIM going strong.
We have a staff of 13 people who rely on the stable income EIM provides. We're raising money to keep these salaries going throughout the year, including during periods where we need to temporarily pause classes for security reasons. We are also raising money for our Emergency Fund that will enable us to provide extra support to staff members who experience medical emergencies or acts of theft and violence. We feel honored to have the opportunity to be there when it's needed most.
English in Mind is an educational oasis for over 100 students and teachers striving for an edge in the employment world. In Haiti someone with a high school degree who speaks English will often be chosen for work over someone with a university degree who does not. It's just that powerful.
