In December 2025, seven at-risk survivors of gender-based violence who were enrolled in vocational education and training at Ngihlomise Youth Skills Academy successfully completed their training. The Academy was established by Super Buddies Club to address youth unemployment and reduce vulnerability to violence and sexual exploitation.
The survivors graduated and received certificates in the following courses:
These skills were selected to enhance employability and promote economic independence among the survivors.
Ongoing Support
In January 2026, Super Buddies Club established partnerships with local companies and facilitated the placement of the survivors in internship programs to enable them to gain hands-on work experience in their respective fields. The internship program is also expected to create employment opportunities for those who may be absorbed by host companies.
The progress of all participants will be closely monitored. Survivors who are unable to secure employment after the internship period will be linked to the Entrepreneurship Hub, which was established in September 2025. Through the Hub, they will receive mentorship and support to establish and manage their own businesses.
Funding Needs
Despite these efforts, additional funding is required to support the next phase of the project, specifically for:
Conclusion
This project represents a critical step toward empowering survivors of sexual and gender-based violence by promoting economic independence and long-term safety. By supporting access to employment and entrepreneurship opportunities, the project enables survivors to use the skills they have acquired to build safer, more independent futures. Additional financial support is essential to maximize the project’s impact and ensure that all identified survivors receive comprehensive support.
