This project will support rural schools from the poorest sections in Sri Lanka to get their basic requirements such as sports goods; library books; musical instruments; water, sanitation & hygiene requirements; and essential school packs comprising of school supplies, bags, shoes, etc., for each student. Our assistance will help them surmount the hurdle of poverty to reach their educational goals thus ensuring a brighter future and the opportunity of breaking the cycle of poverty.
The unequal distribution of learning resources & the inability to support basic requirements for children in rural schools have led to limited educational opportunities for those disadvantaged school children & as a result trap them in to the vicious cycle of poverty. The project hopes to assist more than 50 rural schools in the rural areas of Anuradhapura, Seruwavila, Dehiattakandiya & Jaffna to raise their basic standards & those children in rural poor areas to go to school.
Tarana Foundation (TF) will provide basic school requirements such as a school bag, school supplies and shoes to support the children to go to school, and also teach the children the value of education and help them cultivate good habits towards the environment. We will also provide library books, sports goods and musical instruments to rural schools in order to raise their bar and help them to meet the standards on clean drinking water, sanitation and hygiene requirements.
In the long term, this project will help these children continue their education which will result in helping them to rise out of poverty. We hope to reduce the poverty levels in Sri Lanka by helping such underprivileged children in rural villages to go to school. Also, we wish to raise their standard of living by providing basic water, sanitation and hygiene requirements which also help their health, well-being & higher attendance rate.
