What began as a routine assessment of community recovery in Ortese quickly became a profound reminder of the urgent challenges that remain. During our recent visit, we saw with our own eyes the daily hardships families endure just to access water. Instead of progress and comfort, we found children collecting water from polluted streams, risking their health for every sip because there are no safe or reliable alternatives.
Despite these overwhelming conditions, the strength and resilience of the people of Ortese shone through. Families who have lost their homes and livelihoods to conflict refuse to give up. Their determination to restore their community, educate their children, and build a better future moved us deeply and inspired our entire team to act with greater urgency.
