Every Rainstorm Should Bring Hope-Not Fear

By JACKSON AMEH | Project Leader

Rainfall should be a blessing, bringing life and nourishment to communities. But for families in Ortese, Benue State, each rainstorm has become a source of anxiety and hardship. Recent heavy rains and flooding have turned hope into fear, contaminating the very streams that families rely on for drinking water.

During our recent field visit, residents shared how rising floodwaters have washed pollutants and debris into local water sources. Parents now face a heartbreaking dilemma—do they quench their children’s thirst with water that could make them seriously ill, or risk the dangers of dehydration? Waterborne diseases like diarrhea, cholera, and typhoid are constant threats, especially for vulnerable children.

This crisis is not inevitable. With your support, we can provide safe, reliable water systems that shield families from the dangers of contaminated water. Clean water will do more than prevent disease: it will help children stay healthy and spend more days in school, allow parents to focus on rebuilding after years of conflict, and foster a sense of stability and hope in the community.

Your generosity can change the story for Ortese. By supporting our Safe Water Project on GlobalGiving, you are helping ensure that the next rainy season brings renewed hope—not fear—for every family. Together, let’s protect children from preventable illnesses and empower Ortese to thrive.

Please join us in making every drop a source of hope and health for the people of Ortese.
