For many of us, turning on a tap is something we hardly think about. But for thousands of children in conflict-affected communities in Benue State, Nigeria, clean water remains a daily struggle—and sometimes a matter of life and death.
After years of violent attacks, families are finally returning home with hopes of rebuilding their lives. Instead, they are finding destroyed homes, damaged schools, and broken boreholes. Without functioning water systems, mothers and children walk long distances to collect water from contaminated streams and stagnant ponds, knowing that every cup may expose their families to dangerous diseases.
The consequences are devastating. Unsafe water contributes to outbreaks of cholera, diarrhea, typhoid fever, dysentery, and intestinal parasites. According to UNICEF and the World Health Organization, diarrheal diseases linked to unsafe water, sanitation, and hygiene remain among the leading causes of death for children under five worldwide. Yet these illnesses are almost entirely preventable with access to clean, safe water.
GoGreen is restoring hope by rehabilitating damaged boreholes, improving community water systems, and promoting safe hygiene practices that protect children and families from preventable diseases.
