Today, as families courageously return to their communities in Benue State, Nigeria, they are determined to rebuild. Yet the destruction left behind is immense. Wells have collapsed, boreholes have stopped functioning, and safe water has become a luxury that many cannot afford.
For countless mothers, every day begins with an impossible choice: walk long distances in search of water that may be unsafe, or watch their children go thirsty.
No parent should ever have to make that decision.
Unsafe water continues to expose children to deadly but preventable diseases, while repeated illness drains already fragile household incomes and prevents children from attending school.
