Ortese has suffered from violence, displacement, and now, disease. When families return, they find only contaminated water. This leads to a vicious cycle: sick children can’t attend school, parents can’t work, and the community can’t heal. Nigeria is among the top 5 countries globally for child deaths from unsafe water (WHO, 2022).
