Milaan has identified thousands of families who have been disproportionately hurt due to loss of livelihood, lack of food, shelter, health, and other basic needs due to COVID-19. We are serving the poor and neglected with immediate relief through Food Kits (rice, wheat, oil, lentils, salt, spices, sugar, potatoes, soya chunks, detergent, soaps, and pads) and making direct cash transfers to women-led households to combat COVID-19.
More than 80 percent of India's workforce is employed in the informal sector, and one-third are working as casual laborers. Vulnerable communities are more exposed to hunger, malnutrition, destitution, and other problems which may potentially be more widespread than the disease itself. COVID-19 is leading to a hunger crisis, with no food to feed families. For households run by women, the economic hardship of this pandemic is even more immeasurable.
We are locally procuring food supplies and distributing food kits to thousands of families, especially ones with pregnant women and women-led households. The kits contain - Rice, Wheat, lentils, oil, sugar, salt, spices, potatoes, soya chunks, washing detergent, bathing soaps, and sanitary pads. Women-led households have been identified and direct cash transfers into their bank accounts are helping them on a monthly basis to run their households and feed their children.
The Project will help feed over 1000 families and 5000 individuals allowing them to survive the economic, hunger, and health crisis. It will eliminate hunger in neglected and remote communities due to the pandemic. They will be able to put food on the table and feed their children, pregnant women, and the elderly. Sole women earners have no support structures, the project will allow them to rise out of poverty and survive the pandemic.
