With more than 11,600 loans issued since its inception in March 2004, CHF’s Afghanistan Microfinance Institution has issued more than $6 million in small loans to give rural Afghans the funds they need to expand their livelihoods. In the Fall of 2007, CHF launched a new loan product allowing clients to take out loans specifically to enhance their agricultural and livestock activities. Rural clients use this loans--which average at around $250--allow clients to purchase sheep, cows, or chicken, livestock that helps them enhance their household asset base, produce food for better nutrition, and earn additional income.
Throughout, AMFI clients have successfully maintained a near 100% on-time repayment rate, a remarkable testament to the positive impact a small investment of capital can have on the long-term economic security of low-income entrepreneurs.
Support for this project from GLobal Giving will allow CHF to expand its services to reach even more clients.
