Music of the Heart is a Marching Band School Education Program in L'Asile, Haiti. It started with 18 students ranging from 8 to 19 years old . We are now expanding and adding 14 more students to our program - making it a total of 32 students. Our program provides youth hope through music in a world of extreme poverty.
Extreme Poverty in a remote region of Haiti. Youth here have no after school projects or programs to enrich their life's. Our after school Marching Band Program teaches our students how to play a musical instrument, be part of a team, march as a band together and challenges them with positive opportunities to learn something they would never have a chance to experience.
It gives the youth something to engage in after school. Teaches them how to work together with other students. Provides the students, together as a band, to perform at different venues such as funerals and weddings. The band can now make and save money at these performances and this money can be used for things they wish to do together. Or they decide to use if a student is sick or family needs help.
Our hope is the students can work to a level that they become recognized as a Marching Band in Haiti and can perform and earn a living by playing together. Or some individuals may choose to perform on their own as well - or use their skills to find a job as a music teacher in Haiti.
