1. Background and Rationale

The city of Goma, in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, has been facing a prolonged humanitarian crisis. Armed conflict, extreme poverty, and diseases such as HIV/AIDS have left many children without parental care. These orphaned children often live on the streets, exposed to hunger, illness, abuse, and exclusion from education.

Without timely and sustainable intervention, these children risk remaining trapped in a cycle of violence, marginalization, and despair. This humanitarian project was designed to respond to this urgent reality by restoring dignity, protection, and hope to some of the most vulnerable children.

2. Overall Project Objective

The project Support Orphaned Children in Goma, DR Congo aims to sustainably improve the living conditions of 50 orphaned children in Goma by providing them with a safe, protective environment that supports their physical, emotional, and educational development.

3. Specific Objectives

Provide safe and dignified shelter for orphaned children
Ensure daily access to nutritious food
Facilitate access to basic healthcare services
Provide school kits and ensure school enrollment
Offer psychosocial and emotional support
Strengthen the capacity of caregivers and trainers

4. Beneficiaries

50 orphaned children, girls and boys aged 5 to 17
Indirect beneficiaries include local communities and the city of Goma

5. Planned Key Activities

Expansion and improvement of sleeping facilities (beds, mattresses, blankets)
Regular provision of nutritious meals
Basic medical care and health follow-up
Distribution of school kits and educational support
Identification and training of caregivers and trainers
Creation of safe spaces for learning, play, and recreation

The project is currently in the phase of identifying trainers and beneficiaries, a critical step ahead of the planned operational launch in November 2025.

Supporting Orphaned Children in Goma, DRC: A Hope for the Future

Introduction

The situation of orphaned children in Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo, is devastating. Hundreds of children, victims of poverty, armed conflict, HIV/AIDS, live on the streets, without family, without protection, and without access to education or healthcare. These children are left to fend for themselves, facing abuse, malnutrition, and an uncertain future. Our project aims to give them a chance to escape this harsh reality by providing them with shelter, nutritious food, medical care, access to education, and emotional support.

Project Objectives

This project aims to support 50 orphaned children in Goma by providing them with a safe and nurturing environment. The key goals are:

Provide safe shelter: Construct and equip facilities with beds, blankets, and recreational and learning spaces.
Provide nutritious meals: Ensure regular, balanced meals tailored to the children’s needs.
Access to education: Distribute school kits and allow children to attend school to gain the skills they need for their future.
Medical care: Guarantee access to healthcare and proper hygiene to prevent diseases and improve their well-being.
Emotional support: Create an affectionate and protective environment where each child feels safe and supported in their personal development.

Context of Goma and Orphaned Children

In Goma, thousands of orphaned children live in extreme conditions. Orphaned by war, victims of HIV/AIDS, or poverty, these children are often rejected by society, without access to the basic rights of food, housing, and education. The lack of governmental support and appropriate social structures makes their situation even more critical.
