In the first half of 2017, Emprendedora School maintained a student retention rate of 98%, strategically overcoming the barriers that rob Nicaraguan children of the education they deserve. The school is currently educating 318 students, exceeding the 2017 plan of 310. Keeping students in the classroom is just one success metric achieved by Emprendedora School. As of September 30, 2017:

  • 88% of students were excelling in the rigorous curriculum, touting GPAs of B or higher.
  • Education quality is excellent, as supported by a post-graduation study stating that 80 the 2016 graduates are attending universities and 16% have accepted jobs in their field.
  • Parents continue to take an active role in the school with 35% volunteering to clean and maintain the main access road, school entrance, and classrooms.
  • The school continues toward sustainability by covering 84% of the budget with combined revenues from tuition, Pacaya Lodge (which serves as the school's tourism campus) and school agribusiness. Now at 53% sustainability, the school is persevering to reach its year-end sustainability goal of 75%, despite the damage to school crops sustained by Tropical StormNate.
  • Construction of the new library and multi-media center were completed, but the sports field was delayed due to heavy rains.
  • The newly developed curriculum for our English Program has been incorporated into classrooms, creating a dynamic and engaging opportunity for students.
