Uncertainty has a way of reshaping institutions just as it reshapes individuals. This year, across Tanzania and the wider region, shifting political and social landscapes tested our agility, patience, and resolve. Yet through every pause and pivot, one truth remained constant: creativity endures. At Nafasi, we witnessed how the arts continue to offer clarity, connection, and courage in unpredictable times.
We are deeply grateful for the support of our partners, including the Embassy of Switzerland in Tanzania and the Embassy of Norway in Dar es Salaam, whose commitment to cultural exchange and artistic resilience made our work possible. Their contributions ensured that Nafasi could continue to nurture creativity even in moments of uncertainty.
The temporary postponement of Tukutane Dar Arts Week was a decision grounded in care for our community. When the festival finally returned, it did so with renewed energy and intention. What unfolded was more than an event; it was a powerful affirmation of solidarity. Artists, cultural practitioners, and international delegates gathered not simply to showcase work but to declare that creative expression remains essential, especially in times of transition. Workshops, exhibitions, performances, and dialogues reflected a sector that is not retreating, but recalibrating and rising.
Beyond the festival, our year was marked by sustained investment in community, youth leadership, and institutional strengthening. Through the VIA Safe Mobility Program, young ambassadors conducted risk assessments, produced safety maps, and generated practical road safety recommendations. Their work culminated in a national competition and awarding ceremony, reinforcing the transformative power of youth participation.
Our Feel Free Grant 2025 and member-led programs expanded access to resources and platforms, nurturing artistic experimentation and collaboration. Film screenings, jam sessions, workshops, and community dialogues animated our space, proving that creativity flourishes through shared experience.
Internally, we strengthened governance, safeguarding, and human resource systems. Strategic recruitment, internal promotions, PSEAH training, and structured member engagements reinforced professionalism, accountability, and inclusivity within our growing network.
This year reaffirmed that resilience is not simply endurance; it is thoughtful action. It is choosing when to pause, when to adapt, and when to boldly re-emerge. As we look ahead, Nafasi remains committed to nurturing talent, fostering safe and vibrant creative spaces, and championing the arts as a force for hope and social transformation across Tanzania and the continent.
In uncertainty, we did not stand still. We created.
