As colder and wetter weather approaches, families living in temporary shelters face additional challenges. A tent that provides limited protection during dry weather may become extremely difficult to live in when rain, strong winds, and lower temperatures arrive.
Many displaced households have limited materials available to reinforce their shelters. Tarpaulins and other basic weatherproofing materials can therefore become an important part of emergency shelter assistance.
Providing durable tarpaulins can help families cover exposed areas, reinforce damaged tents, and reduce the amount of rain and wind entering their temporary living spaces. These materials can also help protect bedding, clothing, food supplies, and other belongings from exposure to the elements.
Early support is particularly valuable because preparing shelters before severe weather arrives can reduce some of the difficulties families may face later.
With sufficient funding, we aim to obtain and distribute shelter materials to displaced households according to assessed needs. Donor contributions can help families improve their temporary living conditions and face difficult weather with greater protection.
