Summary

Tharu are an ethnic group indigenous to the Terai - the southern foothills of the Himalayas in Nepal. History of tharu living in the area about five thousand years old but society slowly modernizing and adopting western and European culture. Ancient tharu culture and tradition disappearing everyday therefore to preserve and promote indigenous culture tharu museum has been establish where tharu women have been selling tharu dresses, ornaments and ancient materials for their income.

Challenge

Historical tharu indigenous culture and tradition those are worth value were getting disappear due to the lack of ownership by tharu themselves. Ancient practices and valuable materials were disorganized. Western and European culture were influenced that destroyed historical monuments. Tharu Women were not getting platform to promote their production such as dress, food, ornaments and others materials.

Solution

The museum has been great platform that has collected different types of ancient tharu materials to preserve culture and tradition. It is being promoted as tourism, attraction by organizing various tharu monuments dresses, foods, ornaments. It still needs attention to promote by collecting historical materials to represent different ritual, dance. similarly it also give opportunity tharu women get engaged in income generation activities.

Long-Term Impact

The museum will develop as historical monuments. It will attract tourism that will make dang renowned. Ancient tharu culture and tradition will get preserved and promoted. It will also develop network with national and international indigenous organization. It will also create opportunity for tharu community to generate income,
