This project strengthens immigrant and migrant rights on Maui by providing culturally-rooted legal support, disaster recovery navigation, and direct aid to families often excluded from traditional systems. Your support helps our bilingual, bicultural team protect community members, increase access to essential services, and ensure families can live and work with safety and dignity.
Maui's immigrant and migrant communities face language barriers, limited access to legal protections, healthcare, and financial stability, compounded challenges after the 2023 wildfires and increasing risk with the current administration's immigration policies. Without culturally rooted support, these individuals often slip through the cracks of traditional recovery systems and risk exposure without proper vetting of resources and coordinate care.
Roots Reborn uses a community-led, systems-oriented approach to address the structural barriers our community faces. By offering comprehensive, culturally and linguistically-rooted resource navigation, legal aid and community defense, we serve as a vital source of safety, information, and advocacy. We intentionally hire and develop young immigrant leaders, upskilling and offering professional pathways that expand Maui's long-term capacity for culturally informed services.
Beyond the 1,200+ individuals served annually through various programs, resources and trainings, Roots Reborn strengthens Maui's long-term safety net by building a trusted, culturally grounded support system led by immigrant leaders themselves. Over time, our work increases community resilience, expands access to legal and health protections, grows local capacity, while advancing racial justice and transforming the systems that have historically marginalized them
