Dear Friends,
Greetings from Indian Dreams Foundation!
It is our pleasure to share the recent report of the project “WE CARE” that addresses the health & hygiene issues of the adolescent girls & women from flood-affected areas. That project not only targets the menstrual health of the girls & women, although it promotes the WASH practices among the school children by conducting awareness sessions and distributing hygiene kits free of cost to follow good hygiene practices.
Our team has interacted with villagers to get a deep understanding about their health & hygiene practices, especially interacted with a female member of the family and asked them to know the general practices they use in day to day activities to maintain good health. Many women told that they face a very tough situation to manage their Mahina (menstruation) during flood time. Water seems everywhere and we don’t go anywhere to manage the menstrual blood.
32 years old women named Roshni (name changed) mother of four children said, “It was such a horrible situation for all of us. Our house was overflowed with water and it was at the same level for about two months. My family members managed to live on the terrace for the entire flood duration. I got menstruation during those days and I had nothing with me to absorb the menstrual blood. I found the dirty cloth from somewhere and tied up to soak menstrual blood. I used the same cloth for continues for three days. As a resulted, I got red rashes near my vaginal area”.
WE CARE team has collected a few more stories from the field & will share them with you soon in the next reports.
Thank you for supporting the flood victims especially women & adolescent girls without your sponsorship it is very difficult for us to serve them and provide them with a dignified life.
We want your continued support for helping the affected women, girls & children.
Regards,
Team IDF
