This project will help the anti-human trafficking outreach program of the Ratiu Center for Democracy to directly support survivors of human trafficking in the process of reintegrating back into Romania. Currently, this project directly supports 14 survivors by helping with repatriation costs when necessary and facilitating psychological, litigation, vocational, educational, literacy, and medical services so as to empower this community to decrease their likelihood of re-victimization.
Our main challenges lie in maintaining a high level of support services and the need for expansion in order to assist more survivors. The local authorities often refer new cases to us as we are currently the only non-profit capable of directly working with survivors in the Northwest region of Romania. In order to expand our reach in working with survivors, we need to have the ability to support them in meaningful ways so as to work alongside them throughout their justice attainment processes.
This project reconciles these challenges by creating a steady and available source of income in order to facilitate the repatriation costs and the psychological, litigation, vocational, educational, literacy, and medical services needed by the survivors with which we work. These services are foundational and vital to increasing the re-integration capacity of a human trafficking survivor while also decreasing their risk of re-victimization and re-trafficking.
The anticipated long term impact of this project is that more survivors will be supported and empowered through these service provisions. Our community of survivors will have access to healthcare, vocational and educational training, as well as the ability to have legal representation in order to obtain justice for themselves against their traffickers. We will also see fewer survivors re-victimized and re-trafficked due to this type of foundational support.
