This project will conduct HIV/AIDS education and sensitization in the secondary schools and tertiary institutions in Anambra State, placing billboards on the roads and in those institutions, to encourage people to get tested for HIV, know their status and avoid stigmatizing and discriminating against people living with HIV/AIDS. HIV/AIDS education is key if we want to prevent new HIV infections and end AIDS, as it concerns people who are living with HIV/AIDS and those who are not.
Many people living with HIV in Nigeria are unaware of their status and a lot of people also think that HIV/AIDS doesn't exist anymore, as a result of lack of awareness, while people who are living with the disease are still being stigmatized and discriminated at homes, communities, offices, hospitals etc, as many still think that the disease is a death sentence.
We will educate people about HIV/AIDS and create awareness to help them know that the disease still exist, get tested and know their status and hence, protect themselves from getting infected if they are not yet infected and for those that have been infected, they will know that living with HIV is not a death sentence and will be able to know where and how to access treatment. We will also place an HIV/AIDS awareness billboards on the roads and in the tertiary institutions in the state.
People will stop seeing HIV as a death sentence, but rather protect themselves in order not to be infected if they're not infected yet and also, stop stigmatizing and discriminating against those living with HIV/AIDS. When people who are living with HIV are not being stigmatized and discriminated against anymore, they will find it easy to disclose their status to their loved ones and as such, adhere to their treatment, be healthier and be able to achieve a suppressed/undetectable viral load.
