This project will support 5 weekly growth groups for 70 at-risk youth in Phnom Penh. These small groups are safe spaces for young people to process their pain, grow in their emotional maturity, and develop their leadership skills. Youth will also have the opportunity to participate in adventure camping retreats in rural Cambodia.
At Mission Dove Cambodia, we believe that if we don't transform our pain, we will transfer it to those around us. Many young people are caught in this cycle of violence: receiving pain from difficult family situations and transferring this pain to their peers and community. Many of the youth who come to our learning center are from economically poor backgrounds, and they have few safe places to heal from the pain in their lives.
We hold 5 weekly growth groups for at-risk youth to gather with their peers and a trained facilitator. As the young people share their stories in these support groups, they begin to process their pain and find safe community. They grow in their self-awareness as well as learn valuable leadership skills. These young people also have the opportunity to continue their healing journey by participating in adventure camping retreats in rural Cambodia.
This project will reach 70 at-risk Cambodian youth who will have the opportunity to process the pain in their lives and disrupt the cycle of violence in their families and communities. These young people will grow in their ability to build healthy relationships with their families and peers.
