Support Girl's Digital Education in Rural Nigeria

By Monday Itoghor | Chief Executive Director

Introduction:

Consistency on targeted activity leads to sustainability of a viable project. This Environmental and Rural Mediation Centre (ENVIRUMEDIC) has resulted to facilitate the utilization of the ICT centre by providing training of youths on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and advocacy.

Aim and Objectives:

This activity is aimed at providing training to youths in rural public schools on Data Science, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, and enhance their skills on computer and engaged in advocacy for more mobilization.

Interventions:

From the month of January – March 2026, ENVIRUMEDIC has engaged 4 facilitators (Two Male and Two Female) to train youth on digital literacy at the set-up ICT Centre in Emonu-Orogun. We are also providing mentorship and coaching to the facilitators and the youths, on why the program should be taken seriously.  The good news is that the centre has been receiving high patronage including youths from the neighbouring communities.

During any of our support visits, youth were sensitized and mindset changed towards embracing Artificial Intelligence, parents and teachers also sensitized to further push for digital literacy inclusion and community members are sensitized to support digital literacy program in their various communities. Students were been sensitized and supervised on their understanding of Data Science, Machine Learning and AI in Eboh and Ugono Secondary Schools of Delta State.

Challenges:

ENVIRUMEDIC digital literacy project has not started generating supports so going to this rural communities requires transportation cost. The project requires computer tablets to show as model but non is available yet.

Solutions:

To put the Centre to use is born at of ENVIRUMEDIC passion to keep the dream running. The project requires more funds, manpower and other supports like computers to drive the process further and reach out to more communities in Nigeria.

Conclusion:

The project is consistently providing leadership and support to the Centre bringing happiness, joy and acceptance to all community stakeholders. This is in response to the Federal Government plans to implement the National CBT Examinations on WAEC, NECO and other examinations.
