Giving War-Traumatized Children a Voice

By NIYONZIMA | Cordinator

In Goma, many children are growing up with the lasting effects of armed conflict. For some, trauma has affected their ability to communicate, express their needs, and participate in school. Without specialized support, these children risk falling further behind their peers and being excluded from the education they deserve. Through our project, Support for Traumatized Children, we aim to provide individualized language education to more than 100 vulnerable children, helping them rebuild their communication skills, regain confidence, and take meaningful steps toward independence and inclusion in primary education.

The project is currently in its preparation and fundraising phase. We are identifying qualified trainers and the children who will benefit from the program, while working toward securing the resources needed to begin implementation. Our planned activities include structured learning sessions, adapted educational materials, and supportive teaching approaches tailored to the needs of children affected by war. Although implementation has not yet started, the need remains urgent, and every contribution will bring us closer to providing these children with the specialized support they need. Our total budget is US$18,570, and we have not yet received any donations toward this target. With the support of GlobalGiving and the generosity of donors around the world, we are hopeful that we can mobilize the necessary funds and turn this commitment into meaningful action.

The impact we hope to achieve goes beyond language development. We want children to feel heard, regain confidence in their abilities, participate more fully in learning, and have a fairer chance of building a better future. We recognize that recovery takes time, patience, and consistent support, and we are committed to approaching this work with care, dignity, and respect for every child. We sincerely thank GlobalGiving for helping connect our project with a wider community of people who care about vulnerable children. We are equally grateful to every donor who has supported, shared, or taken an interest in this initiative. We now invite individuals, organizations, and compassionate supporters everywhere to stand with us. Your donation, whatever its size, can help bring specialized educational support within reach of a child who has already endured too much. Together, we can give these children more than an opportunity to learn: we can help them find their voice, rebuild their confidence, and look toward the future with hope.
