Challenges Faced By Thalassemia Patients

By Maryam Asim | Management Representative

Dear Donors,
Thalassemia, a genetic blood disorder, is a harsh reality for thousands of individuals across Pakistan. Yet, thanks to your generosity, hope continues to shine for these patients who rely on life-saving treatments to survive and thrive.

Challenges Faced By Thalassemia Patients

Thalassemia major requires regular blood transfusions every two weeks to maintain basic hemoglobin levels. However, these transfusions come with a significant risk, iron overload, which can damage critical organs like the heart and liver if not managed through iron chelation therapy.

In Pakistan,

  • 5000 cases of thalassemia are diagnosed annually.
  • Over 10 million carry the gene of thalassemia
  • Access to consistent treatment remains out of reach as families are restricted due to financial constraints.

For patients and their families, the struggle is unrelenting. Yet, with your support, these challenges can be transformed into stories of resilience and recovery.

Your Impact Bringing Hope to Life

Thanks for your contributions, we’ve made remarkable progress in providing comprehensive care for 1,045 thalassemia patients. Here’s what your support has achieved so far:

  1. Blood Transfusions Delivered:
We facilitated 17,000+ transfusions, ensuring patients receive the essential care they need to lead active lives.
  2. Iron Chelation Therapy:
More than 24,000 patients benefited from iron chelation therapy, preventing organ damage and significantly improving their health outcomes.
  3. Awareness Campaigns:
Our community outreach efforts educated individuals on thalassemia prevention and management, empowering families with knowledge to make informed health decisions.

While we’ve made incredible strides, the journey is far from over. With $86,571 still needed to reach our goal.

Thank You for Being a Lifeline
Your unwavering generosity fuels this mission. Every donation brings us closer to a world where no one suffers needlessly from thalassemia. Together, we can continue to give these patients a chance to live, dream, and thrive.

With heartfelt gratitude,
Kashif Iqbal Thalassemia Care Center
