Up to date $810 have been donated to the project “Support for 250 Widows and their Families”. We´d like to express our gratitude to all who have supported the project so far.
Our first activity within the scope of the project will center around early childhood education. The idea is that early childhood education can lay the foundation for a successful life with regard to education, well-being, employability and social integration, especially for children from disadvantaged families. Children who grow up in Kenya often not only lack access to the education system but important skills that are essential growing up.
A German volunteer will implement the activity with 50 children age 4-7, who attend the kindergarten of the widows cooperative. The activity will have the title “Wildlife in Kenya”. Most of the children have never left their village and don´t know anything about the wildlife in their own country. The activity will include an excursion to Impala Sanctuary in Kisumu. The children will be able to see the animals in the park and will have a picnic together. The excursion will cost an approx. $500 for 50 children.
The remaining funds will be used for improving the childrens diet in the kindergarten. Nutrition is an essential factor with regard to the performance and healthy growth of children. A poor diet provably has negative effects on the performance of children.
We would also like to announce that DfA will take part in the Girl Fund Campaign, which will take place from 1st-15th March on GlobalGiving. The campaign is based on the idea that girls have an important role to play in making the world a better place and has the objective of providing them with the resources they need as well as decreasing the inequalities between boys and girls. In Kenya, girls can often not go to school during they have their period because they don´t have sanitary pads. As a consequence, they regularly miss out on school for a whole week. DfA will take part in the campaign with a project that has the objective of supporting the girls in our sponsorship project. We´d like to ask you to support us during the campaign.
