Food for Survival

This project supports women in Nepal who are living with mental health problems and/or are survivors of gender-based violence. Many of these women face extreme poverty and have very limited access to nutritious food. By providing regular meals made from healthy and organic ingredients, we help them recover physically and emotionally. Good food is not only about survival, it gives them energy, improves their mood, and helps their bodies heal from the stress and trauma they have experienced.

During this reporting period, we identified vulnerable women through community outreach and partner referrals. We provided them with healthy food that included rice, lentils, vegetables, eggs, meats and other locally sourced organic items. Along with food, we conducted simple nutrition awareness sessions so that women and their families understood how a balanced diet can support mental and physical health.

The impact has been meaningful. Many women reported feeling stronger, sleeping better, and having more energy to carry out daily tasks. Some said they felt more hopeful and less alone because they knew someone cared about their recovery. One beneficiary shared her story: “I am now able to eat good, healthy food. If I was at home, I would have already been dead, as we have no good food or access to it.” Her words show how critical this support is and without it, many women would continue to suffer from malnutrition and poor health.

Looking ahead, we plan to continue and expand our outreach to reach more women in need. We will also strengthen connections with local health posts and women’s groups to provide more holistic support that combines nutrition, mental health care, and protection services. With continued support, we can ensure that more women in Nepal have the chance to recover, rebuild, and live with dignity.
