As of 18 September, flooding has affected over 735,000 people across 38 of South Sudan's 78 counties and the Abyei Administrative Area. According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), 76,230 people have been displaced, most reported in Renk, Upper Nile State.
In Western Equatoria State, heavy rainfall triggered flooding on 31 August, affecting 1,530 individuals (510 households) across 19 residential areas in Mundri town, destroying homes and disrupting learning. A fact-finding mission on 2 September found all water points flooded and contaminated. Partners have yet to assess the flood-affected people. After distributing food and Non-food items to flood victims, their livelihood and good health conditions shall improve, improved shelter conditions. The assistance can also bring psychological comfort, knowing that help is available can ease the overwhelming stress and anxiety that flood victims often feel.
The Long-term, impact of relief efforts can be seen in the recovery of entire communities allowing families and neighborhoods to regain stability. Relief efforts can help restore livelihoods, enabling flood victims to become self-sufficient again. Moreover, well-organized support systems can lead to stronger disaster preparedness in the future, reducing the impact of similar events later on.
