Support Feminist Activists Around the World

Urgent Action Fund for Feminist Activism (Urgent Action Fund) is deeply grateful for the partnership of the GlobalGiving Girl Fund. Your critical support is helping us to build the resilience of women’s rights and LGBTQI rights movements around the world through grantmaking (issuing security and opportunity grants to frontline feminist activists), global and philanthropic advocacy, coalition-building (working transnationally to strengthen alliances that drive frontline work forward), collective care (funding holistic healing and social change solutions that genuinely ensure the care, protection, and safety of activists and marginalized communities); and monitoring, learning, and evaluation (MEL) efforts rooted in a feminist praxis. We are thrilled to provide a report to GlobalGiving detailing our organizational work over the first period of the grant: November 8, 2024 - May 7, 2025. 

Feminist movements are navigating volatile political landscapes across the globe, facing heightened violence and oppression directed at the most marginalized among us—women, trans and nonbinary individuals, migrants and displaced populations, sex workers, and disabled people. Across our grantmaking, we also see the devastating effects of migration and displacement driven by conflict, as well as crackdowns on feminist activism, food insecurity, political crises—including coups, uprisings, and electoral violence—and the mounting toll of natural disasters exacerbated by climate change. In response, over the six-month reporting period, your donation helped Urgent Action Fund for Feminist Activism provide 241 grants totaling $1,527,162.00 to support women, trans, nonbinary, and gender-expansive feminist activists across all of the regions we support: Canada, Central Asia, Europe, the Middle East, the Balkans, the Caucasus, and the United States. 

Through grant partnerships, Urgent Action Fund is proud to report significant grantee impact– particularly for women, LGBTQI+ people, Black and Indigenous communities, disabled populations, and migrants and displaced groups– through activities like providing emergency aid and relocation services, supporting physical and digital security efforts, strengthening crisis and narrative change efforts, and supporting the safety, wellbeing, and collective care of feminist activists and organizations. Two of the major focus areas during the grant period include: 

• Ukraine Crisis Response: We continue to issue a significant amount of funding via our Ukraine Crisis Response Fund. Since the start of the Ukraine crisis response effort, Urgent Action Fund has supported feminist activists working on behalf of LGBTQI people, women, survivors of sexual violence, disabled populations, sex workers, migrants, and other vulnerable and disenfranchised groups in Ukraine and in the surrounding region, which have both been heavily impacted by the war. 
• Support for Activism in the United States: Growing violence from the far-right, fascist movements, and both state and non-state actors are putting U.S. organizers at risk for physical and psycho-social harm. In particular, BIPOC, queer, trans, and women-led groups are the primary targets of these attacks at local, state, and national levels. Therefore, our work has focused on supporting activists who are facing tremendous backlash to sustain feminist movements and conduct critical work on behalf of their communities.
