This project will provide rapid response grants to grassroots women, trans, and non-binary activists so that they can respond to unexpected risks and opportunities, protect and care for themselves and one another, and nurture feminist movements that are creating a more just and equitable world.
Around the world, feminist activists and grassroots movements are navigating escalating conflicts, violence, political turmoil, anti-LGBTQI+ attacks, human rights violations, climate disasters, and crackdowns on feminist activism. More than ever, feminist activists-especially activists who are disabled, displaced, Black, Trans, and/or Indigenous - need resources to protect themselves and their communities while continuing to lead grassroots movements that advocate for the most marginalized.
Urgent Action Fund provides rapid and flexible funding to feminist activists and organizations to ensure that feminist movements can remain resilient in times of crisis. Many activists are experiencing burnout while facing violence, conflict, and instability. Dedicated resources are necessary to support these individuals and organizations, enabling them to continue the fight for justice. Our approach seeks to support the people and movements that are often under-funded and overlooked.
Funding feminist activism has transformative long-term impacts. By resourcing feminist movements, particularly those led by marginalized groups, we can build resilient, inclusive communities and shift power dynamics to create sustainable change. These investments empower activists to address the root causes of inequality and strengthen grassroots networks, leading to enduring progress in areas like gender equity, racial justice, LGBTQI rights, and climate resilience.
