Summary

This project will launch a series of 10 targeted, scalable online events to inspire more high school girls to pursue STEMM careers. Interactive online sessions reaching >4000 students across NZ and the South Pacific will profile STEMM and showcase women leaders through live Q&A opportunities. All sessions will be uploaded to a permanent, open-access platform to create a free global resource that systematically boosts visibility of women in STEMM and female workforce representation.

Challenge

Women are significantly underrepresented in science, technology, engineering, maths and manufacturing (STEMM). A critical lack of visible career paths, female role models, and low career confidence can cause female students to drop out of the STEMM pipeline prematurely. They are missing the opportunity to enter, thrive and lead in the STEMM sector. This project will empower more than 4000 young women to pursue careers in STEMM and inspire a global audience to follow their lead.

Solution

Multiple online STEMM sessions will increase the visibility of, and access to, STEMM career paths, role models and alumnae networks supporting more young women to follow their path into the STEMM workforce. Digital scalability of the project will connect >4000 students to more STEMM experiences, more diverse topics, more frequently. Sharing these experiences via an on demand, open-access global resource will expand project reach beyond borders to inspire young women in STEMM anywhere, anytime.

Long-Term Impact

This project will raise the visibility of STEMM pathways and role models to empower 4000 young women to enter the STEMM workforce. This will direct and support more women into STEMM jobs and systematically reduce industry underrepresentation. As more women enter the workforce the growing pool of female professionals will expand into a powerful network of STEMM mentors and advocates, inspiring the next generation in a self-sustaining loop.
