Fat Cat Fab Lab is an award winning, 100% volunteer-run NYC makerspace & only makerspace founded by a jazz club in 2013. Our mission-to share the magic of making to inspire everyone to grow- drives us to teach & share tools for 3D printing, laser cutting, CNC routing, welding, sewing, electronics & more. In 2020 we helped found NYCMakesPPE & gave thousands of face shields to health care workers. To stay open, 200 artists, students, engineers, hobbyists, & startups need sponsored memberships.
Fat Cat Fab Lab needs donor support for 200 members who are the heart of the Greenwich Village maker community. The community needs the maker space to remain an open innovation & cultural space, and as a source of PPE for essential workers during COVID. Members who have lost jobs and encountered difficulties during COVID need support to help the underserved and jump start sustainable projects for themselves and the space. E-NABLE device candidates need assistance to make music study accessible.
If 200 members of Fat Cat Fab Labs get sponsored memberships, they can continue to create and thrive in the space; the lab will be able to renegotiate it's lease to a lesser monthly amount and remain open; healthcare workers will be able to request free PPE from Fat Cat Fab Labs that will be produced on the lab's precision machines by trained volunteers and donated. Volunteers have started to assist e-NABLE Alliance as stewards and advisors on tools that make music and art accessible.
Fat Cat Fab Labs will be able to sustain itself in a new lease, with happy, generous and productive volunteers using sponsored memberships. New York City will be more resilient during COVID. People with disabilities will have volunteers vetted and trained with a network of support in the e-NABLE Community who are champions for making music and art accessible to all.
