We are very grateful for the generosity of our supporters in helping us to raise enough funds to begin a new kindergarten class at our Tahama Learning Center in January. Our local community partners are busy preparing for these new students.
Preparation includes meeting with families to discuss the learning program and expectations and collecting birthdates and other registration information about each student. Additionally, our partners are interviewing participants in our youth education program who have recently completed their high school exams regarding their interest in teaching. The newly hired teacher will receive training from the school Director, Madam Salma, before beginning work in January. All of our teaching staff come from the local region and most are graduates of our educational programs.
To support this effort, Engage Globally helps our partners with compiling student information, new curriculum materials, and in January three of our Board members will travel to Ghana to conduct in-person teacher trainings. Additionally, we are working on finding small business partners or grants to help with the purchase of used motorcycles. Teacher transportation is a major challenge in rural schools, especially for female teachers, and motorcycles make a big difference.
In collaboration with our local partners we are excited to be preparing for the new students and teachers and look forward to a very successful new school year in January!
