In Dawasamu we aim to improve phonics and literacy levels, aid physical and creative development and provide materials and infrastructure that would otherwise be unavailable in Fiji's rural schools. We endeavour to enrich the education within schools and broaden opportunities for pupils in the future. We also put strong focus on linking environmental education in the schools.
The Dawasamu education project has been adapted and refined to enable the volunteers to work towards long-term sustainable goals and achievements. To provide detailed and accurate lesson plans, recording sheets and handover notes is essential is ensuring the continuation of student progress.

To develop a range of resources to help volunteers plan and teach quality literacy lessons.The resources are categorised into activities that support students' understanding of; Vocabulary, Grammar, Spelling, Comprehension, Composition and Punctuation. As the majority of GVI's education volunteers are not trained teachers, the resources are beneficial when they first begin to plan and deliver literacy lessons.
