Letter from one VISIONAR student, Gaston:
Hi, my name is Gaston, I am 19 years old and I am attending my second year of Civil engineering school in Rafaela city. I was born and grew up in San Francisco (Argentina), but given that Civil Engineering was not offered in the local university, I decided to move to Rafaela to pursue my goal.
I come from a very humble household, and I am the first person in my family to attend college. Thanks to the help from VISIONAR, and the hard work of both my parents, I am able to afford a college education. I am very thankful for this opportunity!
As part of our commitment with VISIONAR scholarships, and as a way to pay forward the help we receive, VISIONAR scholarship students get involved in community service projects. In my case, I rallied some of my classmates at university to help repair and restore public buildings in Rafaela that are not well maintained due to budget limitations. Our group makes assessments of the needs and then provides the labor to complete the projects. Activities we engage include applying plaster to walls and painting. We work on this project on weekends and holidays so that it does not interfere with our school work. I am really happy with this project and the contributions we are able to make to the community. I have provided a few photos in the attached report.
