Drinking Water for coastal people in Bangladesh

Bangladesh Environment and Development Society (BEDS) is a community based non-profit, non-government and development organization. BEDS has eight thematic areas for work in which safe drinking water is one of them. BEDS has been trying to provide safe drinking water to the climate vulnerable underprivileged Sundarbans coastal community since 2015.

A total of three ponds have been re-excavated and Solar Pond Sand and filter systems have been established to support 4,494 people of three villages of Banishanta union under Dacope sub district of Khulna district of Bangladesh. But due to salinity of that water, BEDS is trying to raise the required fund to support the underprivileged Sundarbans coastal people with desalinated water (3 desalination system).

In these circumstances, BEDS realized the necessity of pure drinking water for the coastal people and established Reverse Osmosis water purification systems with Water ATM in Paschim Dhangmari and Uttor Banishanta village. Two 500 liter/hour Reverse Osmosis Water Purification systems with Water ATM are installed by using the existing facilities (Solar Pond Sand and Filter system). As a result the 45% people of the Banishanta Union are now getting access to pure drinking water. But this is not sufficient for the large coastal community. After installing the Reverse Osmosis Water Purification systems water contaminated diseases like cholera, dysentery, jaundice etc are ‍about to disappear. in the year 2020, we distributed 200 water jars among the villagers.        

Target grant of this project is 30,560$. So far 7,677$ is raised from 58 admirable donations. We are extremely grateful to the donors for being with us. And we expect that they will continuously help us for what we are aiming at.
