Dear friends,
Hope this letter finds you well. We wish you a happy summer, that just started!
One day before the beginning of the summer, on 20 June, World Refugee Day was marked across the globe.
On the same day, Pomoc deci was celebrating a big success that Milena made us proud of. And now I would like to share it with you, since all of it would not be possible without your generosity.
Over the years, thanks to your support and empathy, we have been able to provide hot meals, school supplies and educational scholarships to over 100 children and youth.
Milena just turned 18. She spent the last four years in a student dormitory. That was the place she could afford and it was directly thanks to you.
Milena`s family arrived to the village near Smederevska Palanka city in 1999, during the bombing. She wanted to be a geometer and to study for four years in Geodetic Technical School in Belgrade. From one point of view, it was a great idea to choose such an interesting profession, needed more and more every day, but from the other hand, it was an idea that was impossible to support by her parents, still just refugees in Serbia. With a sister in a university, mother working as a hygienist, and a father with a sessional job, Milena`s future was at stake.
But then, same as for Milena`s sister, Pomoc deci realized that together with all of you, we can make it happen. With a scholarship that she was receiving all four years, she could live in Belgrade, buy herself food and other essentials, and to study without fear that she could be left on her own.
And yesterday, it happened! Beautiful and diligent Milena sent us her photo with a diploma in her hands! The proud of her face was everything to us. We are sharing it with you, so you can see how valuable your donations were to someone who is just starting her life as an adult, but an educated adult, standing firmly on her feet.
Without your help over the years, Milena and many other modest kids would not have been able to continue their education. Donations from our friends, supporters, and members are the glue that holds our campaign together. We cannot do it without you.
Unfortunately, we are ending this school year with a lack of scholarships for the next year starting in September, and hopefully in September we are going to write to you that all is fine, and that all refugee children in Serbia can continue their education. You will be the first to know, because you are the one that can help us achieve this goal – support youth from underprivileged groups to educate themselves and fulfil their potential in life.
