Pokhara is one of the largest cities in Nepal. Working with the local community we aim to provide a safe and healthy environment and build resilience to a number of vulnerable local people. In partnership with the community we aim to fund local development projects that will impact the community as well a provide support, resources and improve the healthcare for locals.
The issues affecting the Nepali people are widespread. They include- limited access to quality learning resources and education and women and girls are often excluded from education. Preventable health issues affecting learning and lifestyle and limited access to healthcare as well as limited access to clean water in many areas. In 2015, the earthquakes and the border blockade had a profound impact on the economy particularly the tourist industry which many families heavily rely on.
We work alongside the local project staff, offering support and assistance with a focus on education. Using donations, we provide support in the form of resources. These include providing educational resources to enhance learning, supporting feeding programs, helping cover rental expenses and assisting with improvements to facilities. This creates positive living and learning environments. We also work on initiatives that help save costs in the long term and reduce our environmental impact.
Effective education in the early years will broaden children's future opportunities and capabilities. For the adults on our projects, education develops their confidence and offers them a range of income generating activities and opportunities. Health education leads to greater understanding and prevention. Improvements to facilities lead to healthier, more positive and comfortable living and learning environments.
