CHOW's mission is to support wellness within the hospitality industry and to improve the lives of our community through shared stories, skills, and resources. Your support helps us achieve the following goals for 2024: Increase resources and services for Spanish speaking culinary/hospitality workers. Outreach to at least 10,000 new culinary/hospitality workers and distribute harm reduction resources. Provide mental health and wellness training and resilience resources to management teams.
The culinary/hospitality industry is fraught with pay inequity, job insecurity, discrimination, exploitation, poverty-level income, and little access to benefits. This affects our community across socioeconomic status, age, geography, language, gender, disability, citizenship, and sexual identity and orientation. Many in the industry come from marginalized populations such as youth, immigrants and refugees. Historically, these populations often struggle to access essential healthcare services.
Through education and training for managers, and peer support services for workers, we engage as peers and establish trust helping them to see they are not alone. CHOW provides resource navigation for services beyond our scope. We collaborate with clinical programs offering pro bono services for the industry and allied organizations concentrating on behavioral health. All services provided by CHOW are free and accessible virtually. We believe in our community's resilience.
CHOW advocates for systemic change within the industry to address issues of discrimination, inequity, and injustice. This project addresses the complex and intersecting needs of individuals in the food, beverage, and hospitality industry, with a focus on mental health support, substance use intervention, access to healthcare, and advocacy. CHOW believes that together we can create a healthier, more supportive, and equitable industry where all workers and businesses can thrive.
