Since the Typhoon Hagibis hit Ohsato town in 2019, JISP has been working with the community to provide different forms of support to strengthen affected community's resilience from within!
We are now expanding our activities using the Kitchen Car amidst the warm weather that makes it hard to believe that it is March, and it feels as if the spring is just around the corner! One of the most memorable days in the last few weeks was when we had an event in Dotesaki District of Ohsato town, one of the areas severely hit by the 2019 typhoon, and a community where the residents are united to overcome the disaster! Especially, elderly residents are taking the initiative in their activities based on the concept of "Let's enjoy our old age in good health! As part of the initiative, they proposed to use our kitchen car for a birthday party to be held by Senior Citizens' Club.
One of our goals is to contribute to the community building by encouraging local residents to take the initiative in creating and participating in events using Kitchen Car. This time, elderly residents of Dotezaki District prepared a birthday party by themselves and gathered around the Kitchen Car to enjoy the special occasion. One of the participants said "We are so happy to be able to eat outside, thanks to the Kitchen Car. I will definitely live longer if I have a place where I can socialize with my friends!”, and we were thrilled to hear such reciprocating comments. We hope that the local residents will take even more initiative in using the Kitchen Car, as they did this time, so that each event will reflect on the creativity and opinion of local residents. Kitchen Car activities will make it possible support to those who have difficulty going out and to those who have not been able to access much needed support until now.
We will continue our activities so that our support activities will reach the people affected by the disaster!
